Roadside Vegetation Management
Learn how the County manages roadside spraying, mowing, brush, and other vegetation along County roads and rights-of-way.
Roadside Spray Program
The County sprays roadsides to help prevent the establishment and spread of weeds such as:
- Common Tansy
- Ox-eyed Daisy
- Field Scabious
- Toadflax
- Scentless Chamomile
- Canada Thistle
- Sow Thistle
Brush may also be sprayed to slow its encroachment along County roadsides.
If you do not want the County to spray the roadside or ditch adjacent to your property, you can participate in the County’s Do Not Spray program through a Weed & Brush Control Agreement.
Roadside Mowing Program
The County’s Roadside Mowing Program keeps County ditches and rights-of-way clear to improve visibility and safety for people travelling on County roads.
Mowing takes place annually from May through September, moving through different sections of the County over the five-month season.
The sections included in the seasonal mowing plan are identified by Council using feedback received from ratepayers.
If you have feedback about roadside mowing in your area, contact your County Councillor.
Roadside Vegetation Removal
The County also manages trees and other vegetation where growth affects road safety or makes County roads and property difficult to maintain.
Areas with limited visibility or other vegetation concerns are inspected and prioritized for maintenance.
Vegetation Removal Compensation Program
If you want to clear vegetation on your own land and the work would also benefit the County’s right-of-way, the project may qualify for the County’s ROW Vegetation Removal Compensation Program.
Contact the Agricultural Fieldman and Public Works before beginning any clearing. If the proposed work qualifies:
- ASB and Public Works representatives will inspect the area.
- The County will determine the amount it will contribute.
- You must agree to the terms and payment amount before work begins.
- Approved applicants have up to two years to complete the work.
- The County will complete a final inspection before payment is issued.
Applications and the amount of work approved can be limited by available budget.
Landowners cannot carry out vegetation control within a County right-of-way or on County property outside of this program.
